Of course, this Downtown Art Walk, you’ll probably hear about the usual Art Walk Lounge happenings, and it’s tours, the fairy tale labyrinth of books at the Last Bookstore and the oh so, elegant findings at the Gloria Delson Contemporary, but be sure not to miss the politics, cultural diversity, delicious eats, free drugs? memorials, celebrity artists, musical talent, free giveaways, anniversaries, and charity events, taking place in some of the less talked about stops along the way. ART APPETITE – Taste Of Art Walk
It’s Official; Art Appetite – The Taste of Art Walk is the number 1 flavored attraction during the Downtown Art Walk. Celebrating its 3rd year, with live DJs, independent artisans and tons of giveaways from Choice Teas and many others. Featuring T-Mobile Magenta Truck, there are no starving artists in their camp. The park is located just south of 7th and Spring, has already made the pages of LA Magazine, LA Times, LA Weekly and National Geographic as representing the Downtown Art Walk, and is celebrating its success as a major Downtown Art Walk hub hosting up to 5000 people in the peak summer months. The City of Los Angeles has been known to donate tables and chairs to help the park organizers, who are artists dedicated to raising money for local charities. The Head Hunter Truck will provide delicious gourmet sausage varieties including camel and kangaroos sausage? Yeah, we said it! DIMEPIECE POP UP at DTLA Weekly Headquarters
Fans of DIMEPIECE can visit their two-day pop up during the Downtown Art Walk to find out what DTLA’s sexiest feminists are wearing this season! Dimepiece, founded in 2007 by co-creators Ashley Jones and Laura Fama has since become an international stable of street style with its openly suggestive messages and raw reality-urban, sex appeal. Fans including Nicki Minaj, Cara Delevingne, Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, and Selena Gomez, have kept Dimepiece in the mix as one of the world’s most influential voices for women within their apparel line. REN GALLERY presents “Street Chic”
Street Chic features seven of LA artists and one designer. Gallery owner and curator and longtime Queen of Art Walk Renee Warren, known for her Art Walk pop-ups at the Hotel Alexandria, Spring Arcade, and the Medalion Promenade fpr almost a decade continues her support of the arts within REN Gallery, this time partnering with designer Alejandro Saavedra, selecting a group of street artists to paint his newest creation, the Kandinski chair, launching a custom line of fine art furniture. The Kandinski chair has a sleek modern feel, made of triangular wood panels and a simple circle seat. Street Chic offers you a taste of what happens when LA art meets design. Artists include Aise Born, Clairfoster Browne, Rob Grad, Emmeric Konrad, Jennifer Korsen, (Happy Birthday Jenny!!!), Louis XXX, JW Pippen, and Alejandro Saavedra. SHOPWALK inside THE SPRING ARCADE BUILDING
ART WALK celebrations abound inside the Spring Arcade Building with vendor pop ups provided by SHOPWALK, inside the Spring Arcade’s entirely delicious restaurant hub consisting of everything you’d ever want to eat from authentic French crepes to sushi with local musical talent and live artists. Seven Ghost presents…ROCK Walk – VR, Drugs and Rock & Roll
What’s better than drugs? Free drugs? Ah, No. But that was funny, wasn’t it? Really the event is free and offers music performances by Rumble Pak, Oh Yeah Sumi, Gal Pal and No Telescopes with visual artists Mike Habs, Ted Asbille, Dekker Dreyer, Edrok One, Edwurd Desvermin and Bill Bronson. The Hive Gallery
The Hive presents “TAWDRY” + “Rising Stars of LA” with Paz, Joey Stupor, Chris Lowail, Opal Unicorn, Sydtropolis, Sunol Golden, George Hobbs & over 50 new artists to the Hive Gallery on view during the Artwalk from 1-11pm. The Hive Gallery is the oldest gallery in Gallery Row, a must-see during the Art Walk and is a long established sanctuary for pop surrealism, giving its unusually talented artists space to create, grand promotions and monthly themed receptions for the past 13 years. The intersection of music and poetry at the Los Angeles Theater Center this Art Walk as part of the highly acclaimed 90-day event produced by downtown local, Peter Woods and Writ Large Press. Showcasing PIEL with their soul soaring, sensual, electro-laced, tribal dance pop romps, dosed with punked out, bombastic liberation frequencies and Earth Arrow, a Los Angeles Afro-Cuban hip hop based band focusing on reviving ancient African and indigenous rhythms and dance. Poetry readings from Fresno based poet Sara Borjas who currently lectures in the Department of Creative Writing at UC Riverside and lives in Los Angeles and Joseph Rios a VONA alumnus, a Macondo fellow, and a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley.
