“Two weeks ago Keri Freeman, creator of the Art Walk News came to me with this idea to support Art Walk and artists,” says intern Tulsi McDaniels.
She wanted a display that was pretty cool and very kooky.”
“What we are doing is a fun mix of visual and performance art for Art Walkers to enjoy; an underwater scene with go-go dancers in glow-in-the-dark afros dancing around like mermaids swimming under the sea,” Freeman explains, “If only we could find our Captain Nemo.”
Freeman who is confident the exhibit will grow offering a chance for anyone interested to create something new extended the invite to artists Veronica Warner, 21, of Downtown, and Christian Guerrero, 31, of Long Beach.
Warner works as a freelance graphic designer and Guerrero does animation and motion graphics, both very talented, find themselves recruited by Freeman and McDaniels to becomeinvolved with the Art-Z Fart-Z project.
“I really wanted to get out of the house, I could just feel my muscles atrophying,” says Warner.
“I love doing anything creative; it doesn’t matter to me. As long as I’m doing something cool and I’m happy, that’s all I really care about.”
Like most artists, Guerrero too enjoys being creative, and his style fits in well with these illuminscent critters. Guerrero will also have a booth at Dr. J’s Vibrant Café on 4th and Main.
“I just like drawing crazy things,” he says. “It’s fun.”
The psychedelic installation is happening Thursday August 8, in a location well exposed to the visitors of Art Walk, located in the Banco Popular 125 W. 4th Street.
Joining in, other members of TheGRAWN team: 18-year-old sales intern, Clementine Gamson-Levy; TheGRAWN editor Jasmine Walker; Sales Director, Juan Gomez; and marketing intern, Thelma Alfaro, all creating their own unique creatures inside this neon world of sea-inspired art.
Art-Z Fart-Z is an on going interactive community pop-up. Freeman is confident that by extending this invitation to create more sea creatures to other artists and locals that the exhibit will grow.
