Beat the Heat with Ice Cream: The Dolly Llama DTLA

The Dolly Llama DTLA

How does DTLA cool off in the summer? With a trip to the ice cream shop.

The Dolly Llama is more than just your everyday ice cream parlor. The hip corner shop attracts youngsters and adults alike. The logo is a llama wearing a pair of light blue sunglasses. With their iconic homemade bubble waffles and delicious ice cream flavors like cookie monster and red velvet, The Dolly Llama keeps the heat at bay.

The sweet smell of waffle cones greeted us upon entering The Dolly Llama. Friendly staff suggested we enjoy one of their decadent treats, a handcrafted Hong Kong style bubble waffle topped with our choice of sauces, toppings and ice cream flavor of choice.

We try the bright blue Cookie Monster with Oreos, strawberries, Nutella, and whipped cream shown above. We are not disappointed and feel delightfully full after fighting and finally flipping a coin to see which one of us will get to eat the cookie. The Bubble Waffle is a meal in itself or the perfect romantic share. But this is not romance. This is work. Downtown Weekly work is tasty.

Very tasty.

We look to our left and behold – a child.

She is shaking her head at us. It seems DTLA is a fun, happening place for kids, older individuals, and everyone in between. For the kiddies, Dolly Llama has just introduced Bubble Jr. a smaller version with all the fixin’s and she is just as happy as we are.

Meet the Llama!

For those wondering why it’s called The Dolly Llama…Co-owner, Samuel Baroux, is from France and his best friend back home had a pet llama they grew up with named Dolly.

Dolly Llama is a Waffle Master!

There are three types of styles. The bubble waffle is the most popular. It starts off round, hot off the grill then gets folded into a cone and filled with your choice of toppings.  The OG waffle just lays back and lets the toppings cover its soft bed of bubbles. The waffle stick is made from Madeline cookies and is a nice, crispy alternative and perfect for on the go!

Dolly Llama opened last December on Spring Street and 6th with plans to expand throughout the Los Angeles area. Very chill – They  just opened another location in K-Town on Western Ave. Dolly Llama DTLA is located at 611 S. Spring Street, open from noon to midnight. @thedollyllama_la
