The Stocking Frame is a cozy lodge inspired bar/restaurant located just south of 9th on Hill.

When we think home-cooked flavor and down-home refreshments in the DT,  Stocking Frame’s mountain lodge in the city comes to mind.

Downtown Weekly got a chance to chat recently with the owner of the establishment, Jerry Aschoff. He discussed their love for the community and came to the conclusion you don’t want to miss what The Stocking Frame has to offer.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Jerry is a former professional baseball player turned restauranteur who graduated from Pepperdine with a degree in marketing. After college, he joined the Seattle Mariners and played professional baseball for the next five years. Owning and operating “The Stocking Frame” for the past ten years, Jerry has sought to create an atmosphere of love by embracing the community in which he is located.

Pine Trees in the City?

Formerly an old textiles building, the bar’s brick affluent exterior is impressive. A pine tree in the city planted decades earlier marks the entrance to the cozy retreat. Jerry has taken the time to bring a nice rustic feel to the space. Inside the easeful lodge; wooden beams, floors, handcrafted tables and chairs, and everything one would need to spend their happiest hours in the mountains. Decked throughout the hall on shelves or hung on nails, mementos, collected over the course of their conquest. There’s even a small one-man sale boat.

Chef Neil Shuman has been working with Jerry since he opened in 2008 and together they create some of the most appetizing meals you could ever catch.

He uses house ground beef for his burgers as well as chopped brisket and homemade pastrami adding to his long list of American comfort food specializing in burgers and pizzas. Subliminal message: TRY THE GOLD FOIL BURGER…it’s a downtown favorite.

Hanging above the rest, Stocking Frame’s cast iron pizzas are made with a sherry base and feature the aroma of onion and a hint of basil.

The Stocking Frame has both vegetarian and gluten-free options that are also available to order and the menu is constantly revolving, using seasonal ingredients guaranteeing everything is always fresh.

It’s beer season.

So if you’re hunting for something more traditional consider any of their beers on tap as well as a selection of fine wines.

DTLA Weekly loves a good cocktail, especially one with a name like “Lola Gaspar”, with a mixture of habanero citrus sours and ginger fizz. However, having so much love for Stocking Frame, Downtown Weekly’s pick for DTLA Cocktail of the Week had to be the “Xoxo” which returned our love in the form of vodka, St. Germain and rose water! Here’s an X we didnt’ want to let go.
