Black Business Association to Honor Rev. Dr. Cecil L. ‘Chip’ Murray at CAAM

CAAM host BBA Tradition

The Black Business Association (BBA), the oldest ethnic business organization in the State of California, will commemorate Black History Month by presenting its Annual Awards Dinner on Saturday, February 24, 2018, California African American Museum, 600 State Dr, Los Angeles, CA 90037. Reception begins at 6 PM, Awards Dinner at 7 PM.

Rev. Dr. Cecil L. ‘Chip’ Murray, will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Rev. Murray is a University Fellow, USC Center for Religion and Civic Culture and Pastor Emeritus, F.A.M.E. Church of Los Angeles. He became a nationally known figure in the wake of the 1992 Los Angeles riots and became actively involved in the issues of job-training, homeowner loans, affordable housing, condom distribution, and HIV/AIDS awareness. Rev. Murray stared FAME Renaissance, a non-profit organization that focused on economic development.

Held in recognition of Black History Month, this years’ theme is “African Americans in Times of War.”

Rev. Dr. Cecil “Chip” Murray joined the United States Air Force during the Korean War after graduating from Florida A&M University. Afterwards, he attended the School of Theology at Claremont College in California, where he earned his Ph.D. in religion.

During his 27 years as FAME’s pastor, Rev. Murray transformed a small congregation of 250 into an 18,000-person church with multi-million dollar community and economic development programs that have brought jobs, housing, and corporate investment into many South Los Angeles neighborhoods. Many politicians, including President George W. Bush and President Bill Clinton, visited his pulpit and spoke to the congregation. Murray, though he is retired from ministry, is a vibrant force with a passion to ensure that the legacy of African American Church leaders of the Civil Rights generation passes on their years of experience, spiritual authority, and political pragmatism, to the next generation.
