Craft beer, Frozen Cocktails and Emma Charles at High Tide DTLA

Emma Charles

Looks like downtown LA will have another reason to visit High Tide this summer. The backyard themed bar, dawned in pink and lime, featuring glass blowing, delicious bites, curated art and private events will host emerging folk-pop singer/songwriter Emma Charles on August 3rd.

“Scorpio”, serendipitously titled, in which she weaves together lyrics about self-awareness and finding one’s path with deeply melodic folk and electronic soundscapes.

To celebrate the release of her new single “Scorpio”, Emma will headline the August 3 inaugural Songbird Sessions, a series presenting emerging female artists curated by women.

When Pop Music Comes To Shore, the Sky’s the Limit

Produced by Charles and New York-based producer and songwriter Doug Schadt (Capitol Records, Maggie Rogers, Emmy the Great), “Scorpio”, one of her most poised performances with an edge, will be released digitally August 2nd, by Sky Records, a pop music-oriented label which is part of the highly regarded Resilience Music Alliance.

Charles had enlisted Schadt for two previous singles with the most recent “Comfort in the Chaos,” described by Buzzbands LA as “starkly alluring.”

Their collaboration has resulted in what many are saying is some of Charles’ best work to date and they’ve camped out in the studio this summer creating exciting new material that will be released to her ever growing audience over the coming months and into 2020.

“Scorpio” features multi-instrumentalist Schadt and also Zack Zadek on piano and Eric Read on drums.

Scorpio came from a conversation with a friend, who noted that my birth date was on the cusp of the star signs Scorpio and Sagittarius. Says Charles.

“Curious, I discovered these two signs were very different, and they each possess very unique qualities which correlated to different aspects of my
personality. Apparently, the signs are fire and water – polar opposites – which I translate to my extroverted/introverted personality. Overall, Scorpio is about finding the right balance in my life and how to navigate competing emotions – something I think many can relate to.”

2019 has proven to be a watershed for Emma as her musical journey brought her cross country to live and work in LA.

Born and raised in Westport, Connecticut, Charles began her career with a slew of well-received singles
as Emma Charleston.

As a graduate with Honors from the prestigious Berklee College of Music, Charles traveled the country on national tours with Howie Day and Tyler Hilton.

A classically trained singer, she has explored forays into R&B, rock and in particular musical theater.
Emma has appeared in the lead roles in regional productions such as Hair, Sweeney Todd, Bloody Bloody
Andrew Jackson, Avenue Q, and Urinetown and, most recently Veronica in Heathers: The Musical at
Berklee.

The event will be held at High Tide in Downtown LA with second show supporting the release at LA’s Hunnypot Live at The Mint on August 19.
