DTLA: Eat What Makes You Tipsy

tipsy burger

Cheers DTLA! Chef and restauranteur Ben Sage has opened the doors to his second DTLA location. Tipsy Grill is brand new and now serving Ben’s delicious recipes in the heart of the Fashion District. Those who have had the pleasure of enjoying the food at his first location, Hill Grill, which gained soaring popularity due to its delicious variety of gourmet burgers know Tipsy Grill will surely follow in that success.

Willaim Douglas Lee’s Garment Building built in 1926 houses Tipsy’s location on the corner of 8th and Sante Fe. The building has seen the city through ups and downs, coming up on a century of the hustle and bustle of Downtown Los Angeles. Now, after a recent renovation which left the Gothy Beaux-Arts style monument in layers of black and gold, it’s helping to bring back the Fashion District’s historical value in a huge way.

Tipsy Grill Burgers are Just as HUGE!

Maybe the most filling burgers in Downtown, most likely you’ll want to share. Here’s some examples.

The Double Reuben Burger at Tipsy’s puts a burger bun to the sobriety test. It’s quarter-pound burger topped with Angus Pastrami, Swiss Cheese, house made Sauerkraut and Tipsy Aioli. It’s so tall you can barely fit your mitts around it, let alone stuff it all in your mouth. Try to walk a straight line to the last bite of this burger – You will end up with a to-go box.

The Maxfield Burger is breakfast, lunch and dinner. It’s burger bun host dripping egg yolk, thick smokey bacon, tater tots and delicious onion rings and will have you seeing double patties.

Why did the Chicken Cross the Road…? Because it was Tipsy!

Tipsy’s Crispy Fried Chicken Burger clucks around with coleslaw and Tipsy’s Aioli Sauce. Chicken Burgers also come grilled bringing out your true feelings with every bite.

Shrimp and Fish have a snug home inside the buns of Tipsy’s too.

You can add shrimp to any of the burger varieties at Tipsy Grill. The Salmon Burger with organic wild Arugula, tomato, Haas Avocado, and Tartar Aioli is a classic of Hill Grill that’s gracefully managed to reach the shores of Ben’s new location.

Always remember to eat responsibly!

Impossible Burger with Shrimp…not so Vegan but not so Impossible either

Vegans and Vegetarians have options at Tipsy Grill. If you prefer a plant-based substitute, The Double Veggie will be your best bet. Two veggie patties, mushrooms, avocado, sprouts, tomato, rivaled only by all other vegetable burgers – it demands your healthy be just as tasty. There’s also the Impossible Burger making it impossible for you to deny Tipsy Grill is number 1 for Burgers in the DT.

More than Just Burgers…

Tipsy Grill offers a home base for Angelinos. Sage’s culinary expertise and training at Le Cordon Bleu Paris shine through in the comforting down-to-earth cuisine.

Tipsy’s intoxicated menu of delicious gourmet prepared flatbreads, vegan burritos, tacos, fried cauliflower, steak sandwiches, and even Chicken Tortilla Soup is loaded with confidence. The menu items represent Downtown’s grassroots, topped off with an array of local beer and wine.

When asked how to describe such a place, Sage simply states, “Let the food speak for itself.”

Paying Homage to Street Art

Contrast to the historic exterior building, the interior is modern, fitting for the fun casual atmosphere of the restaurant, with a seating choice of sophisticated bar stools or dining tables. The unique decor pays homage to the hip hop culture of Downtown, with commissioned art by Black Light King.

“I like to work with business and warehouses,” says Black Light King, “I painted the building right next to Tipsy Grill and I’ve always wanted to paint this one.”

The opening at the end of 2018 has already attracted rave reviews for a sophisticated sports bar-like atmosphere. Already, Tipsy Grill is living up to its name, becoming one of the best lunch to late-night spots in town.
