12 New Screams… We mean Screens… Alamo Drafthouse Opens at the Bloc

It’s better late than never for the Grand Opening of Alamo Drafthouse which promised to open nearly 4 years ago at the Bloc, and finally did Friday, July 19th.

Downtown Weekly attended a private ribbon cutting held the night before which had the cast and crew of Alamo finally untied and ready to entertain us with 12 new movie screens promising hard to find cult favorites, a full bar and kitchen, comfortable recliners and something dubbed the “Video Vortex” for rentals. Oh, watch out Netflix.

The Texas based cinema chain founded in 1997, boast 38 locations and easily packs the house with $17-18 movie tickets and a slew of upcoming high profile events.

Bringing years of experience on the film festival circuit to the brand-new Los Angeles location is Rachel Walker, Head of Creative and Programming.

“Getting to put together a programming experience that blends the sensibilities of Los Angeles and the Alamo Drafthouse is a dream come true,” says Walker.

With so much good food, beer and Hollywood sleepers, surely Alamo Drafthouse will become one of DTLA’s coziest chill spots. So comfortable we may even fall asleep at the movies. Please, someone, wake us when it’s over.
