Jimmy Kimmel and Danny Trejo at Vibiana for 826LAs Untold Stories

Old Bank’s District’s Vibiana will celebrate Los Angeles students and the remarkable stories they have uncovered about their lives with the help of 826LA’s free writing programs, on June 6th. DTLA Weekly will be streaming live from the event beginning at 6pm.

Since opening its doors in 2005, 826LA has inspired more than 74,000 Los Angeles students between the ages of 6 and 18 to write by supporting their creative and expository writing skills. The non-profit’s services are structured around the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention, and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. Their programs are known to be challenging and enjoyable, and ultimately strengthen each student’s power to express ideas effectively, creatively, confidently, and in his or her individual voice.

Special guests include Jimmy Kimmel, Xosha Roquemore, Danny Trejo, Reggie Watts, and Mayor Garcetti’s favorite Los Angeles Poet Laureate, Robin Coste Lewis, who will all share in the evening’s culinary offerings and musical libation

Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel will no doubt add a joke or two, along with the subliminal comedic/musical genius of Reggie Watts, who may or may not try to tame his “do” for this one. Not to be missed, a special performance by raspy trance-like, singer-songwriter, Benjamin Booker, a cross between Jimi Hendrix and Curt Cobain, who’s well on his way to becoming a modern-day musical phenomenon.

LA’s own Danny Trejo, as famous for his tacos as he is for kicking ass in some of Hollywood’s most beloved grinder movies, will also be there to share his words of inspiration.

Originally the City’s first Archdiocese Catholic cathedral, Vibiana is nothing less than stunning with its Main Hall and Garden Courtyard offering a beautiful customizable backdrop for events of any style. Yes, Hollywood send us your best we will impress them, with our new downtown. For more information visit: 826LA.org
