The 2019 nationally renowned Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo (BPIR) rides into the City of Industry Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 6:30 pm and Sunday, July 21, 2019 at 3:30 pm.
Not Our First Rodeo…
Holding on to a bucking horse straight out of the chute for 8 seconds with your boots held high, (without touching the dang beast with your free hand), looks a lot easier on television than it does in real life.
For the cowboy and cowgirl, this means the difference between winning and losing, sometimes more than the competition. There’s no soft landings and the time goes by slow. Real Slow. Real Tough.
Also, unlike in the movies, Cowboys and girls don’t get time to form a relationship with their broncos and bulls. It’s the luck of the draw when it comes to who will be riding which roughstock and a true test of skill when it comes to who will live to tell the tale.
Boots that’s Black To Match
For over 35 years, the Bill Pickett’s Invitational Rodeo has toured throughout the U.S.A. This skilled rodeo competition features the best of the best in entertaining Black cowboys and cowgirls from around the world.
We Don’t Always Leave DTLA… But when we do…
Downtown Weekly will be there in support of America’s Black cowboys, cowgirls and youngsters. We’ll be chokin’ up dust and cheering for these hard riding competitors as they battle to be named the best after riding through a season of tours, spectators and fierce competitors.
Added entertainment includes an AfterParty Saturday Night and a Gospel Explosion before the competition on Sunday. Both days promise live performances during the Pre-Show and half time.
Plus, it’s ALWAYS a great weekend of high family entertainment and scrumptious food!
We’ll be in the Valley…
Attendees from all communities of Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties can expect their favorite competitors during thrilling Calf Ropinā, exhilarating Bareback Ridinā, Bull Doggin, Ladies Barrel Racinā, Junior Barrel Racinā, Ladies Steer Undecoratinā, and gripping Bull Ridin.
Bull Riding and Boobies
No time to get “hung up” with old fashion ideals. Expect to see lots of ladies taking up the slack and tipping the barrels this go round.
Under the guidance of Margo Wade Ladrew (BPIR National Development & Marketing Director and Los Angeles Coordinator) BPIR has curated sold out shows with repeat generation-after-generation attendees and rodeo competitors coming back year-after-year.
So…Just what IS at the end of the Old Town Road?
Old Timers of Course…
Returning Official Grand Marshalls; actors, Glynn Turman, and Reginald T. Dorsey who have both served for 33 years along with returning Deputy Marshals James Pickens, Jr., and Oba Babatune.
In addition each year there are surprise celebrity special guests who attend and participate in the rodeo.
