Simrit: Goddess of Athens Brings Mystical Mastery to the Wiltern Ebell

SIMRIT

Get ready to ride the ethereal waves on a mystical journey into the Neo-psychedlic world of Simrit at the Wiltern Ebell Theater on November 9th. With November’s new album, When We Return, Simrit will be on tour from coast to coast.

Described as world beat music, Simrit’s music draws on the harmonic beauty and melodic sensibilities of the ancient Byzantine, Greek Orthodox chants. The musics tantric mix of West African drums fused with piano and vocals stem from different traditions, however they do not forsake modern influences like house and sometimes hiphop. Truly unique the music creates a blend mystical poetry with hooky arrangements and hypnotically- groovy songs.

Simritā€™s vast array of musical influences tell the fascinating story of her life.

It begins in Athens, where a young singer from a prominent musical family had to give up her newborn daughter. That child was orphaned and then adopted by an American Greek couple, who took Simrit, born Stavroula (sometimes Americanized as Stefani) as a toddler to South Carolina.

Over the last several years Simrit and her band have created waves with packed theaters and concert halls, chart-topping albums, and dedicated fans.

STATS FOR DTLA WEEKLY

She has topped World Music Charts including iTunes at #1 for consecutive weeks at a time, many times over, and Billboard Musicā€™s top 5 and 10 with her last four consecutive releases. The new album, a follow-up to her 2017 Billboard Top Ten New Age album Live, Spring 2017 – features the Greek born, South Carolina raised, California based singer, songwriter and harmonium player, performing her ethereal vocals in English, Gurmukhi (an ancient, poetic language that was used in the state of Punjab in the northwestern corner of India), and a self-created dialect inspired by the ancient Greek language of her birth culture.

ā€œWith When We Return, the listener will be taken on an adventure….a cosmic journey. The cool thing about it is that itā€™s psychedelic…with the grounding power of the bass and drums but at the same time be catapulted into spaceā€ Simrit says.
