Virtuosic, intimate and volatile dancing is at the center of acclaimed Los Angeles based choreographer Rosanna Gamson’s dance-theater work Still/Restless, which will have it’s world premiere at REDCAT, CalArts’ downtown center for contemporary arts,Thursday June 2 to Saturday June 4, 2016.

Still/Restless continues Gamson’s kinetic investigation of dream states and the neuroscience and history of dreaming, building on her acclaimed work Still, which was initiated in a collaboration with Lithuanian actor/improviser Petras Lisauskas, and has been presented in-progress at festivals in Vilnius and Siauliai, Lithuania and as part ofREDCAT’s 2014 NOW Festival. Restless is the second section of this full-evening work, and continues Gamson’s investigation beyond the dream state and onto a contemplation of mortality.

Gamson says, “The word “still” invokes both quieting and persistence: the desire to move. The innate and involuntary built-in restlessness of the body persists, even as the range of motion falls away. “

Performed by eight dancers, Still/Restless is a rare wordless, narrator free piece for Gamson, whish is rich with tender and violent movement, explosive athleticism and stunning moments that speak for themselves. The action is set against an eclectic sonic landscape ranging from 17th-century French court composer Marin Marais, to new world post-rock band instrumentals.
