10 Great Places to Watch Super Bowl 53 and the Plays That Go with Them

Just to make sure you don’t fumble your opportunity to have the most fun in DTLA during the Super Bowl… here we go… 10 Great Places to Watch Super Bowl 53 and the plays that go with them.

  1. LA Biergarten – BIG GAME SUNDAY – Bringing Back Beer to Broadway seems like the goal of LA Biergarten with 100 Beers on Tap, just like the playoffs when Rams kicker Greg Zuerlein nailed a 57-yard field goal in overtime, bringing back hope for Superbowl glory for the Rams on Sunday, January 20. This local bar is Downtown’s MVP when it comes Super Bowl action! Expect a full house of Rams jersey wearing rowdiness within its historic hall built in 1913 complete with private mezzanine and all the joy football, cold beer and great food menu selections a sports bar can bring. LA Biergarten has almost as many big screens as they do imports and local brews and the food is delicious. We recommend the Mango & Jalapeño Sausage topped w/grilled onions and bell peppers. It’s a fan favorite and comes with an order of hot wedged fries perfect for dipping into Biergarten’s award-winning BBQ Sauce.

2. Public School – Financial District – only time will tell if new kids on the block, L.A. Rams, will pass the test or find themselves schooled by the New England Patriots who are wily, seasoned vets. Rams Coach Sean McVay, at 32 years old will meet the legendary cantankerous, tablet hurling Bill Belichick as Rams Quarterback Jared Goff will face the G.O.A,T. in Patriot Tom Brady, who is looking for his sixth Super Bowl ring. DTLA will be enjoying the G.O.A.T. Cheese Salad, and infamous Bacon Cheddar Tots along with Beer Battered Fish and Chips topped with rĂ©moulade sauce, and sriracha ketchup.  Thanks to the culinary scholars at Public School 213, this taste filled local bar fills easily most days with the 9 to 5r and travelers from all over who are familiar with Public Schools nationwide; never failing to help Make Downtown Great Again.

3. Brack Shop Tavern – Financial District – No matter how many yards away from happiness, Downtown never gets tired of running back to Brack Shop Tavern. Downtown comfort food at its finest, when The Rams Cornerback Marcus Peters told the press the Saints’ head coach Sean Payton was gonna be eating gumbo after the loss, he may have been talking about Brack Shop Tavern’s infamous Crab boil. Or he could have just been thinking about toasting the Rams Superbowl victory with any of Brack Shop Tavern’s signature cocktails. Ask the locals; Brack Shop Tavern just doesn’t make a bad cocktail. It’s as pleasant a surprise as their upstairs game room, which keeps happy hour enthusiasts returning again and again for new experiences. Chef Quinn is a culinary genius who is responsible for more than a few successful Downtown kitchens. We recommend the Baja Fish Tacos with beer battered cod, pico de gallo, lime crema, atop fresh tortillas. Never out of bounds. Only Touchdowns here! Haha! We all win.

4. Dublin’s Irish Whisky Pub – Financial District – This may be the Rams’ first Super Bowl appearance since XXXVI, but Super Bowls are no strangers to Dublin’s Irish Pub on the Financial Strip. One of Downtown’s oldest and most popular sports bars, if there is a game, fight, match, or championship best believe Dublin’s is showing it. Fully decorated with sports memorabilia and flat screens from the entrance to the back wall, Dublin’s fills with eager sports fans who aren’t afraid to mix and mingle while enjoying the game.  It’s an Irish Pub so expect to see coach Jamerson calling the shots. The food is pretty awesome too. For food, let’s go ahead and play it safe by recommending the Chicken Wings
but just because they come in so many different flavors we know you’ll love em; Buffalo, Rochester, Lemon Pepper, Garlic Parmesan, BBQ, Garlic Buffalo, Ghost Pepper, or Mango Habanero. Oh and the pastrami fries!! Pure fry madness – a game match made in heaven.

5. Boomtown Brewery – Arts District – Boom Baby!!! The Big Game Extravaganza is here and you can definitely enjoy it at Boomtown Brewery! When Downtown Weekly hosted Beer Battles and took on the Medmen at Boomtown last fall, we knew the team with the most love for DTLA brewed beers would emerge victoriously. We won! And we’re going to win again. Just like the Rams, and just like anyone who fits into this free day of good eats, desserts, and on delicious deals on craft beer! Open to all ages. Boomtown is pitching $2 Off Pints starting at 2pm with guest caterers Chef Alan and desserts from S‘moreology. Trust if you’ve never had a taste for Downtown’s strongest craft beer, two LA Tacos and a bacon filled s’more, you may be playing for the wrong team.

6. Bonaventure Brewing Company – Downtown LA is a beer town. Now with over a dozen local breweries, the Super Bowl guest of the Western Bonaventure can rush over to the end zone in a snap to intercept one of Bunker Hill’s award-winning ales. Huddled within a field of massive skyscrapers, amidst the fresh air and blue skies of Los Angeles, BBC brews on its rooftop patio. Golden in color and robust in flavor, there are no penalties or questionable calls when it comes to their Black and Bleu Burger, an Angus chuck burger with blackened spices, topped with grilled onions, bleu cheese and chipotle aioli on a Brioche or wheat bun. Or better yet, why not kick this game off with a bowl of BBC’s New England Clam Chowder?  Haha, we couldn’t resist.

Oh snap! Looks Like Downtown Weekly gets a 5 Yard Penalty for being Offside. Bonaventure is closed on Sunday plus it’s gonna rain… so much for patio seating and blue skies.

7. Spring Street Strip – Historic Core – The Spring Street Strip will have no trouble tackling the issue of entertaining thousands of brawly fans who use any excuse to roam the avenue from 5th to 8th streets. This weekend, in search of the perfect sports bar, teammates can choose from over a dozen well-packed bars offering food, wine, and beer in the spirit of sticky sidewalks and hobo encounters. Be forewarned, the area has been deemed by the local media blitz as becoming more and more dangerous as the population goes head to head with the haves vs the have nots in a game of play to play non stop action. Between the hungry hipsters punching helpless females over bacon wrapped hotdogs and “CVS Social Security Club” under constant surveillance and scrutiny by the areas overzealous neighborhood watch group, that area of town could sure use Nickell Robey-Coleman to break up some of its sidewalk brawls like how he broke up Brees’ pass to Tommylee Lewis late in the 4th. Don’t expect a penalty flag in that case either
maybe just a bunch of onlookers with cell phone cameras ready to post it all on social media.

8. LA Cita Bar – Courts District – has got everything a Super Bowl party could dream of. You’ll come for the game and stay for the overtime. It’s Sunday Bloody Sunday at Downtown’s best kept outdoor patio secret serving Shrimp Cocktail Bloody Mary’s to die for. Feeling like Patrick Mahomes battling the ageless Tom Brady after a full night of drinking on Saturday? Well, there’s no need to head for the bench unless it’s outside in the courtyard of La Cita’s energetic patio. Flat screens outside and a large projector screen make for a great day of sports for this historic Downtown Los Angeles party venue. And, if you can pull it off, go for a third consecutive night of fun and games as Monday night comes alive with Dj Moist spinning Funk, soul and Classic RnB on the 1s and 2s.

9. The Kick it Spot. What’s more special than the New England Patriots getting to the Super Bowl 11 times in NFL History? How about that time Drew Brees fluttered up a pass that was picked off by John Johnson III, who was able to hang on to the interception while falling onto his back? The acrobatic interception proved to be the play of the game! Believe it or not, there is something even more special. Living in Downtown and watching the game with your neighbors at your own building’s entertainment room. Yes, Downtown lofts practice hospitality with beachfront properties like the Waterfront in Venice, and these days they don’t only come with great views, exposed brick, and high market rates. Most of them come with great management teams who double as event coordinators for Super Bowl and other championship events, allowing get-togethers with free food and beverages for their tenants and their family and friends. It’s time for the kick off! Go Rams! If your loft isn’t doing this, well then, it sucks to be you.

10. The Stocking Frame – South Park’s coziest getaway will host the games with the thoughts of bear skin rugs, and home and hearth at DTLA’s favorite gastro lodge. After a generation without an NFL franchise, move over Lakers, its time to share the couch with the Rams February 3, and enjoy American comfort food like the rest of us, in the form of specialty pizzas, gold foil burgers, craft beers and tantalizing cocktails. The game will air on CBS live from the Mercedes-Benz Superdome with the chilling reality of winter in Atlanta, Georgia. However, Downtown LA will be cozy and warm thanks to Stocking Frame’s wintery cabin fair while patrons watch the Rams vie for their second Vince Lombardi Title, and hopefully, their first Super Bowl victory for the City of Angeles.
