Bound by the Torah: A1 Bookbinding

What do The Bible, The Torah, and The Quran all have in common?

If Jesus comes to mind, it’s okay, it is the holiday season, but we’re thinking more along the lines of A1 Bookbinding Company on 13th and Broadway. A1 Bookbinding has been binding these holy books, among others, in DTLA, the Old Craftsman’s way since 1960.

Touted as Downtown’s “longest best kept secret.” A1 Bookbinding was established by husband and wife duo but currently ran by Mariana Blau.

Today, Mariana works alongside Laetita who has been working at A1 for over 20 years and Margarita who has been working at A1 for over 30.

Bibles, college text, instruction manuals, the list goes on with A1’s clients ranging from the Dean to the Pope.

No task is too big or too small for this dynamic trio who offer hard leather and soft covers, quarter binding, restoration, stamped titles, and so much more.

A1 prides itself in putting as much attention and detail to each and every order  regardless of the size of the job, giving her long list of celebrity cliental top notch results.

Customers must provide the pages but have full reign over what colors, the quality of binding and types of labeling they can choose from. Plenty of options including gold leaf machine pressed labels made the good ole fashion way, with type set, letter by letter.

Mariana’s trio can handle anywhere between 1 to 5,000 books with less than a few day’s turnaround.
