DTLA Proud in the Pandemic: Capturing the Moments of Our Survival

This past weekend, DTLA was supposed to be celebrating its 5th annual DTLA Proud Festival in Pershing Square. The festival founded in 2016 to celebrate every color in the rainbow, did just that, and quite successfully, last year bringing in over 30,000 visitors to the streets of Downtown Los Angeles.

However, due to Covid 19, while the whole of DTLA cannot attend in person to celebrate 5 years of unity, community, and diversity the DTLA Proud team has been working hard behind the scenes on a very special project.

“This year, we have had to sit back and re-examine the true meaning of Pride without physical events. Staying true to our mission of celebrating everyone’s story, spreading optimism, growing our community, and expanding our definition of diversity”, said a DTLA Proud spokesperson.

PROUD IN THE PANDEMIC is meant to be a time capsule that will capture this moment of survival, resiliency, and innovation in our shared LGBTQ+ experience. Through a series of interviews and personal stories told through the eyes of members of our community, the documentary will chronicle where we have come from, where we are, and where we see ourselves going.

PROUD IN THE PANDEMIC will premiere alongside an online fundraiser this Fall to raise awareness and needed funds to continue our mission with the ultimate goal of building the DTLA Proud Community Center. For partnership and sponsor opportunities please reply to this email. Additionally, please consider making a personal donation in any amount to this very special project.
