Spring weather is in full swing, and all we want to do is go outside. But since we can’t, why not attend these virtual events so we can combat boredom? From Cocktails to Yoga, ArtWalks and Live Music – Here’s a list of this month’s 10 Great Virtual Events from DTLA.
Make cocktails at home with Flask & Field
Flask & Field, a modern wine shop located in ROWDTLA, is hosting a number of virtual events for you wannabe mixologists at home all throughout the month of May! Virtual events stream on Instagram Live every Friday and Saturday, and owner Miriam Yoo tells me, “we usually reveal a promo code during the events as well so people can listen, watch, learn and get some discounts!”
Get cooking with some of DTLA’s top chefs
@cozymeal is a platform that offers live, interactive online cooking classes featuring chefs from cities all over the country, including LA. All classes are fully interactive, pantry friendly, flexible with ingredients, do not require any special equipment, and provide recipes that are made with 10 ingredients or less. To sign up for a cooking class hosted by a DTLA chef, visit Cozy Meal Cooking Class.
Make pottery at home with Throw Clay LA
Throw Clay LA is a pottery studio in DTLA that is offering a crafty way for those in lockdown to get their hands dirty and express their creativity: hand building at home. In order to stay creative and connected, Throw Clay LA is offering virtual pottery classes and collaborations on Instagram Live several times a week. Follow @throwclayla and join John Prescott every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 5pm to watch him throw some clay and spew some knowledge.
On top of that, Throw Clay LA offers creativity kits for sale and delivery in the local DTLA area, which come with a whopping eight pounds of clay, all the tools you need to get started, and virtual instructions that offer a friendly reassurance that no prior experience is required. The kit also offers the option to join a weekly 6pm online class on Wednesdays to learn more! Once you receive your kit, you have a week to create anything your little heart desires. Then, Throw Clay LA will pick up your pieces the following week and fire and glaze your work. And soon enough, Throw Clay LA will return your masterpieces to you!
Check out galleries in VR with Hauser & Wirth
Although art galleries are temporarily closed, Hauser & Wirth is using this time to amp up their digital antee – on April 30th, the gallery debuted its first ever virtual reality based exhibition, initiating gallery goers into the virtual simulation of the 2021 gallery-to-be in Menorca, Spain. Hauser & Wirth allows users to explore its grounds entirely online, in an interactive, authentic way, using technology that has not been used before! Most importantly, ten percent of gross profits from work sales will be donated to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund of the W.H.O., in honor of the gallery’s #artforbetter initiative. The virtual exhibit can be found at VR with Hauser & Wirth – check it out, it is definitely worth exploring for a little while!

Get highly creative with The Paint Sesh
For their third annual 4/20 Paint & Puff event, @thepaintsesh went virtual this year, giving us all a highly creative way to celebrate the holiday and get our mind off of Miss Rona. The Paint Sesh is basically any stoner’s dream: a laxed space to get high and create art. Follow along with instructor Chelz as she demonstrates step-by-step painting, and smoke a bowl, or five, along the way.
Lucky for us, owner and coordinator Chris Pérez and co-owner and instructor Chelz Franzer are working hard during quarantine to continue providing followers with 4/20 friendly virtual paint sessions until The Paint Sesh can physically reopen in LA! The Paint Sesh also hosts virtual Paint & Sip events as well as painting events for all ages. Upcoming events are listed here. And, be on the lookout for exciting new events for Cinco de Mayo and Mother’s Day! Reach your full artistic pot-ential with The Paint Sesh (ha).
