How to Get from Downtown to Coachella, VIP, VIP

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival returns to the Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA for two weekends set for April 12th – 14th and April 19th – 21st. The Line Up is immense with all your favorite pop stars including Childish Gambino, Tame Impala and Ariana Grande and there will be plenty of perks that come along with purchasing a VIP Weekend Pass. But if you want to really get into Coachella, VIP, ViP, you may want to go as part of one of the event’s many interactive art installation teams.

CRIMSON SOCIETY – COCO

One such venue that has created the concerts enormous structures for Coachella in the past is located in the Historic Core.

Machine Inspired Art, led by college professor Behn Samareh has been adding to the success of events like Coachella for over a decade.

Ascension, also lovingly known as “Coco”, is a 150 ft wide and 45 ft tall giant white origami crane crafted from soaring planes of white fabric and aluminum truss and tension wire skeleton.

Along with collaborators Tom Kopp, Jose Mathias, Greg Perham, Ando Pndlian, Nick Vida, and Derrick Williams, (Crimson Society) in 2010, was first commissioned to create an installation for the Coachella Music and Arts Festival.

Her wing span is roughly the size of a Boeing 747. The aluminum structure is modular, making the crane a temporary installation, but completely mobile and can be assembled on almost any flat site. The 100+ components and over 7000 square foot of 80% mesh texilene sunshade material, that make up the crane, can be dismantled and shipped in one 40 ft shipping container to a new site anywhere around the globe. DoLAB – Wapiti

Do LaB’s Design Team’s newest structure Wapiti is a festival concert goers escape from the blaring, hot desert sun.

Wapiti made its debut at Lightening in a Bottle, fall of last year. Spanning a length of 300 ft and a width of 210 ft, Wapiti boasts a 10,000 person capacity.

SOFIA ENRIQUEZ – MUCHO

Coachella Valley native Sofia Enriquez uses the desert to inspire her mix of nature meets LatinX and teaches art throughout the Coachella valley’s public schools while designing her own hand-painted fashion line, Mucho. Enriquez youth filled murals already grace the walls of LA and Oakland to Paris and Tokyo.

DKLA – RAM

Husband and wife duo, Don Kennell and Lisa Adler fell just as much in love with each other as they did with the animals and nature that inspire their creations. Coming to Coachella for the first time in 2015, they return this year with more of nature’s splender, including RAM from the deserts of New Mexico,”who will watch over the Camping Center day and night, making sure the vibe remains chill at all times.”
