It gets cold in December, but the LA Derby Dolls will be turning up the heat at Champs! Be there as the undefeated Varsity Brawlers take to the track one more time against the hard-hitting Sirens.
Saturday’s Championship Bout will be the third time this season that Sirens and Varsity Brawlers face off against each other at the Dollosseum, so it’s expected that this rivalry has grown strong. The last time these two teams met on the track, the win came down to 12 points in favor of the Varsity Brawlers; who despite being undefeated, have yet to win a Championship title.
Sirens have won 4 Championship titles—most recently in 2014 in a heated match against the Tough Cookies. This Saturday, they will be skating for the chance to win their second consecutive title. Captain Melistophelis and Co-captain Wreckonomic Stimulus recalled, “Sirens were in this exact situation in 2014, going into Champs against a team that had been undefeated across the entire home season. It’s making the team focused and hungry, everyone knows they are going to have to do their part 100% in order to upset VB’s ‘purple reign.’ It’s all about the teamwork at this point, and if there’s one thing we know how to do as Sirens it’s be there for each other. It’s going to be a great game.”
The Varsity Brawlers have proven that hard work, dedication and enthusiasm can bring a team together and skyrocket from underdog status to viable threat. Varsity Brawlers Captain Oblivienne Westwood and Co-captain Absolut Jayhem stated the Varsity Brawlers are “proud of the hard work the team has put in the entire year and can’t wait to skate Championships against the Sirens,” going on to say, “We have been working with Champs in mind all season so we are trying to stay focused.”
