MIRO: SEXY FARM FARE AND UNDERGROUND WHISKEY LOUNGE

In May 2016 Miro opened its doors amidst a gust of media buzz and anticipation.  Could a sleek, hyper-seasonal pan-Mediterranean restaurant with a Michelin trained chef and a cellar whiskey lounge succeed in the stalwart DTLA financial district?  One only had to be present at the elbow-to-elbow one-year anniversary bash to know the answer is a resounding “yes.”  From filmmakers and artists to the after work crowd, Miro has risen up the DTLA ranks as the hot spot for the epi-curious while the lounge and adjacent private tasting room entice serious cocktail connoisseurs.

City chic with a sprinkle of rustic charm, the main dining room and bar burst with a torrent of light by way of glass walls and high-beam atrium.  Chef Gavin Mills is the architect behind the sustainable farm fresh menu consisting of his famous dry cured charcuterie, shared plates and novel pasta and entree conceptions.  But it’s the basement whiskey lounge is where Miro really kicks up the character.

Descend a stone-walled staircase illuminated by a single chandelier.  Enter a Prohibition-era watering hole of exposed brick walls and sumptuous leather sofas.  As the purveyor of one of the most impressive assemblages of whiskey in the city ( a Whiskey Bible is available for your viewing pleasure), the Whiskey Lounge is the proverbial spot to be seen, hang out and sip on premium cocktails well into the night.   And if a basement speakeasy lounge still isn’t secluded enough for your discerning palate, The Vault is their invitation only tasting room where no more than 20 privileged guests sample the most coveted whiskeys on the planet.  The liquid gold journey is led by a certified whiskey expert and there is the option to purchase a bottle which you can store in a locker and save for a future tasting with friends.

And because we love the Whiskey Lounge so much, it is the chosen locale for DTLA Weekly’s inaugural Cocktail of the Week event that will take place on August 16th 2017.  Join us for an evening of premium cocktails (that means no well drinks or diluted concoctions) and mingling with downtown’s best and brightest in the city’s sexiest bar.

And what better way to top off a night of revelry than with a delectable Sunday brunch.  From comfort faves like Chicken & Waffles with sage butter and maple or Ricotta Pancakes with house-churned butter to something a bit more adventurous like spicy Shakshuka or Wild Mushroom Polenta with brown butter.  Wash it all down with bottomless mimosas, organic Bloody Mary or a signature brunch cocktail.
