Los Angeles City Hall will join a long list of memorial ceremonies being held across the country in honor of Prince Rogers Nelson. The legendary singer and music composure known for his enormous talents and sex appeal from the late 70’s to present day, passed away in his home studio, Paisley Park estate in Chanhassen, Minnesota on April 21st at the age of 57. As did San Fransisco, Los Angeles City Hall has remained bathed in purple light from the night of his passing. On May 6th, fans will get a chance to say goodbye along with special guests performances to honor his legacy during an event that is free, open to the public and expected to attract over 25,000 people from around Los Angeles, and perhaps the globe.
The memorial is being held Friday, May 6 at 5 p.m. at Los Angeles City Hall and will hosted by Mayor Eric Garcetti. Â City Hall was used as the primary location for the late singer’s music video for the 1991 song, “Diamonds and Pearls.”
Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson’s office is leading the way for fellow city officials and community leaders who are arranging the memorial. Organizers who include Najee Ali, director of Project Islamic H.O.P.E., radio station KJLH, Board of Public Works Commissioner Mike Davis, and Commissioner Dallas Fowler of the Los Angeles Police Departmentâs Permit Review Panel.
âWeâre expecting a big party on the grass next Friday,â says Ali, referring to City Hallâs south lawn.
